Overwatch 2 has finally resolved the cliffhanger from the end of its PvE story missions via a Story Time comic featuring Zenyatta and Ramattra. The Null Sector leader was responsible for the Omnic monk’s abduction in the cinematic stinger during the Overwatch 2 story missions, after which he tried once more to convince his old friend to join his cause before he moves to the next stage of his grand scheme.

On August 10, 2023, Overwatch 2 finally released the PvE story missions it had been teasing since the sequel was first announced. Unfortunately, while the Invasion narrative was great, the content itself was half-baked, leading to most of the PvE team on Overwatch 2 being let go during a round of Microsoft layoffs, and the story being put on hold with no concrete updates from Blizzard since then.

Ramattra and Zenyatta Meet After Overwatch 2 Story Missions

Fans were left with a significant cliffhanger at the end of the Overwatch 2 missions in which Talon agents Sombra and Widowmaker corner Zenyatta in a stinger at the end of the missions – and now, over two years later, Overwatch 2 has finally resolved what happens next. In “Reconciliation,” a new Story Time comic narrated by Ramattra voice actor Ramon Tikaram, it is revealed that Zenyatta was abducted on the Omnic terrorist’s orders. Overwatch 2‘s Ramattra tries to explain himself to Zenyatta and get his old friend to join Null Sector in saving their people from humanity, but the monk is unable to look past the cruelty of his brother’s actions. The two depart once more as kin, albeit ones who will have to fight on opposite sides of the war.

This comic also teases what Ramattra and Null Sector’s grand scheme is as well. While speaking of the Neural Suppressor devices he has been affixing to Omnic heads, he spoke of their bodies as “shells” created by humans and Anubis as “tools,” and that he had found a way to “preserve” and “free” their people. He apparently has completed the first part of his plan, and is ready to start implementing the next steps.

These story developments are quite exciting, as it shows that Overwatch 2 has not fully abandoned the plot threads laid by Invasion. Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller has shared plans to continue pushing the game’s story forward, and this is seemingly proof of one way they are doing so.

But unfortunately, this comic is soft confirmation that Overwatch 2’s Invasion story missions probably won’t get a proper continuation. Had they landed better, this comic might have been an in-game cinematic during a sequel series of missions in Overwatch 2. Even so, at least Overwatch 2 has not fully abandoned trying to tell stories in other ways.
